At Kingsbridge Community College it is
recognised that all students have differing talents and abilities
and that it is vital to maximise strengths by
providing appropriate learning opportunities and challenges.
Part of the approach adopted by the College is to identify
and support students who have a
real flair and outstanding ability. These students are identified
as being gifted and talented and therefore require different
teaching and support
techniques to harness and develop their potential. Curriculum
areas are now identifying opportunities for Gifted and Talented
students on Schemes of Work and should all have departmental
policies in place. Through exam results, end of key stage
tests and teacher assessment the College regularly reviews
and identifies students who need to placed on the Gifted and
Talented register.
The College runs an extensive extension programme open to
all students which is geared to supporting students with
specialist interests and abilities. The regular programme
of events enhanced with two 4 week blocks in the spring
and summer term where staff run courses that are not always
associated with the regular curriculum. These may range
from beginners Spanish and advanced Cookery to a Writer's
Workshop and Computer Programming. Over 120 students from
Year 7-9 are regularly involved in these stimulating courses.
