National U12 Rugby Emerging Champions
Students from Kingsbridge Community College were crowned National U12 Rugby Emerging Champions at the weekend after winning the final at the home of rugby Twickenham. After earning the right to represent the South West at the National Finals on Saturday morning in Staines, they faced a tough group with schools from Liverpool, Midlands and London. After two massive performances in their first two games gained them great victories, they were left needing a draw to progress to Twickenham. This was the toughest game and a draw meant that the dream of every rugby player was to be realised by the Kingsbridge students. The students were bussed straight to Twickenham and changed into brand new kits in the official changing rooms at Twickenham.
The National Cup Final was played against Harrogate Grammar from Yorkshire in front of 50,000 before the Army v Navy game. Captain Stuart Townsend led from the front with a try after 3 minutes. The forwards did a brilliant job ensuring Harrogate could not cross the line for an equalising try. A great effort over the season was rewarded with this highest accolade.
