03/12/2009 Under 19 Basketball
In their first match of the season in the South Devon schools league, Kingsbridge Community College under 19 basketball team travelled to Coombeshead Community College in Newton Abbot.

Playing zonal defence for the first quarter, KCC kept their opposition away from the basket forcing them into long two point shots which they secured with ease putting Kings under pressure from the start. However Billy Burner set the example for some determined offensive play from the team with his first shot of the game gaining a valuable three points and possession.
U19 BasketBall
The home side managed to match Kingsbridge for the rest of the half but with some great steals from Burner and Robbie Kneen, Coombehead were denied a convincing foothold in the game.

Under the basket Drew Parkinson and Ted Lee collected rebounds, setting up fast breaks throughout the second quarter. But it was in the third quarter when KCC made the decision to play full court man to man defence when James Westlake came into his own, leading his team into forcing the opposition into errors and maximising Kingsbridge’s scoring potential.

With determined defensive play from Jack Massey and Josh Dorey who both in turn provided selfless offensive support allowing Richard Ashworth on his debut for the school to create space under the basket and set up great assists.

The under 19s confidently sealed the win with Aaron Thapa raining down a three in a high scoring final quarter with the team winning the game 65 points to 42.
The whole squad must be commended for their effort, with each combination of players showing great commitment and teamwork.

27/11/2009 U18 Girls Indoor Hockey Make West of England Finals
The Girls indoor team played at Exeter University and ended up in second place which qualified them for the regional finals which take place in Cheltenham.

Their first match was against Bludells School in which they had an extremely close game, eventually drawing 3-3. Goals were scored by Harriet Exley from a well rehearsed short corner routine and two from Giselle Ansley.

Giselle was high in confidence after attending trials for England U18 squad the previous weekend and had a great match against Blundells.
In their second game, KCC had the upper hand but were not able to convert their chances due to some great keeping from Exeter School’s goaly. Ellie Malley had a superb game and a late goal was scored by Ella Baldwin to finish 1-0. In the final game against South Dartmoor, KCC gave away an early penalty flick and conceded another despite some good defending from Sarah Cullen and Harriet Exley.

Kingsbridge were back in the game when Chloe Harvey scored to make it 2-1 but this was the eventual score. KCC and South Dartmoor now go on to represent Devon in the regional finals at Cheltenham Ladies College and we wish them the best of luck.

Well done girls, it was a great team effort! Squad members: Giselle Ansley, Sarah Cullen, Ellie Malley, Harriet Exley, Ella Baldwin, Kate Pope, Chloe Harvey, Gemma Harvey and Carmen Ansley.

U13 South Devon Hockey League
The year 8 hockey girls are waiting to hear on their final position in the league but are optimistic after only conceding 2 goals in 7 matches. They had two separate outings where the girls beat Westlands 3-0, Churston 2-1 and Coombes Head 1-0 with goals from Ashleigh Manktelow,  Phoebe Thomas, Georgie Adams and Hester Stembridge. In their most recent tournament they worked well as a team, despite some absent players. With great defending from Sophie Thorpe, Mathilda Alexander and Hannah Flintham this allowed for some attacking play which was rewarded by a 1-0 win against Stover. The team were unlucky not to score against Torquay Grammar which ended in a 0-0 draw. Other team members that contributed to their success were Jess Thomas, Meg Foster, Millie Wannacott and Harriet Arscott.
