| 30/06/2010 | Design and Technology Week | |
Our Design and Technology week started with a fantastic exhibition of all of the GCSE and A level Product Design, Graphic Products, Textiles, Resistant Materials and Catering coursework which was held in our Sixth Form Centre. This was visited by students and parents who commented on the high standard of work. During the week students in year six from all of the feeder primary schools attended a technology taster afternoon in which they tried out lots of different workshops. Students had the opportunity to sample making finger biscuits and smoothies, rocket cars, bookends, textile pockets and LED torches. Plymouth University attended our year 9 technology immersion day and ran a carousel of engineering and design activities including controlling a robot, trying out a Segway and a pressurised dry suit. All of the year 9 catering students prepared and cooked all of the food for the Hat walk evening event. |

Each primary school entered their winning hats made out of recycled materials. Molly White was awarded the overall winner. The Eco group modelled a number of outfits from local charity shops which they had chosen and Elfic the jester entertained parents and pupils between the different performances. Along with a very exciting quiz on design icons the GCSE textile course work was modelled by some year 8 students. Mr Luckhurst was compare and music was provided by Laura and Robert Williams. |

This is a great feat of physical and emotional resilience. It is wonderful that our students show such teamwork that everyone finished the gruelling challenge: many congratulations! It is impossible to name and thank individually all the many members of the staff and student community headed up by our Outdoor Education Leader, Neil Cameron, who contributed to the success of this amazing event - thank you to you all! |
