| 22/01/2010 | Razwan - Islamic Art Day | |
From an RE point of view the two day workshop for all Year 8 students with Razwan was brilliant. The students really relished the oppurtunity to be able to understand and be creative whilst learning about another culture. They enjoyed meeting Razwan and the work that they produced with him and since has been excellent. Experiential learning is extremely important and the workshop gave the students the chance to be hands on and creative, they had the oppurtunity to produce Art work in both RE & Maths, as well as looking at maths and cosmology within Islam. According to the students the day was... |

| "It was relaxing; their religion is very peaceful and they do not beleive in anything bad." "good to do something different" " interesting" "really relaxing" " it was peaceful." "fascinating how we did the art work."
I think these comments sum up the day as a great success and extremely worth while from a student & learning perspective! |

| 20/01/2010 | A Visit from Valencia | |
We were very pleased to welcome Miguel and Oscar from Valencia yesterday as part of the continuing exchange programme with L'Alcudia de Crespins, Valencia. Miguel the headteacher and Oscar the English language teacher came to discuss the final arrangements for the Spanish students visit in March, with Mr Tim Melia and Miss Astrid Ruiz of the MFL department. Miguel and Oscar were given a guided tour of our college by Mr Roger Pope and then met with the students who visited Valencia last October. |

| 18/01/2010 | Year 8 visit to the Eden Project | |
Kingsbridge Community College took a group of Year 8 students on a Geography Fieldwork visit to the Eden Project in Cornwall. As a result of the poor weather, the students were lucky enough to find that they had the site almost to themselves. The trip focused on investigating plant adaptations, with a view to understanding how plants are able to adapt to the different conditions in which they live. The students carried out a self guided tour of the biomes, identifying how different plants survive in their natural climate and environment. The visit will be followed up in college by asking students to think about how plants might need to adapt to survive in Britain's changing climate, culminating in a project to design and build a plant that can survive the predicted warmer, wetter winters and hotter, drier summers. |

In light of the recent extreme weather conditions and a forecast that there could be further disruption over coming days, it is important to ensure that all students are fully informed about the potential impact on the January module exams.
