Kingsbridge Community College has been dancing into the festive season with a spectacular show of Dance, Gymnastics and Music.  Over 200 students performed in a range of styles from jazz to contemporary street and hip-hop with interludes of gymnastics and songs.

Groups of students also travelled from schools all round Devon in order to take part in the show.  One group even came from as far as Ilfracombe!

The show, called “Full Motion Showcase”, has grown over the years to become a spectacular event hugely enjoyed by the audiences.

Principal, Roger Pope said, “We never cease to be impressed by the talent of our young people.  Today we saw them at Kingsbridge – tomorrow it will be the West End and Broadway”.

Kingsbridge Community College performs Hamlet.

“There is something in his soul……..”

Kingsbridge Community College hosted a very special evening, to celebrate the phenomenal success of the abridged version of Hamlet that the Year 11 drama students performed for the Shakespeare Schools festival this term.

The stunning piece, capturing the decedent sophistication of the 1920’s, was a suitable reflection of the elegantly performed piece.   The students who have worked incredibly hard, have been supported and guided by the skill and dedication of Miss Stephens their drama teacher, creating an evening performance showing off there outstanding dramatic skills.  The atmosphere created with tables of candlelight, added to the mystical evening, with wine and a superb feast of a buffet. The  level of skill and acting ability displayed was outstandingly well supported by the part of Hamlet, played by Jasper Hobday-Dines, with his impressively committed and unique performance.

All students and staff involved are to be congratulated for the hard work and devotion involved in creating such an enjoyable and successful evening, with special thanks also, to Dianthus Ltd for their amazing display of food.

04/11/2010 Exchange programme between KCC and IES l’Alcúdia de Crespins

The second year of the exchange programme between KCC and IES l’Alcúdia de Crespins school in Spain proved to be another great success.

Students stayed for a week with a Spanish host family, attended lessons at the school, and visited many of the local sights. Our pupils all agreed that they had learnt lot about Spanish life, and that living with a family had helped them understand the Spanish language much better.

The people of l’Alcúdia made us feel really welcome, just like last year, and many parents and teachers commented on how well-behaved and polite our young people are. Well done KCC students!

British Schools Surfing Championships 2010

Over the weekend of the 8th and 9th October students from Kingsbridge Community College competed in the British Schools Surfing Championships at Woolacombe, North Devon.

The conditions over the weekend were really good, with Saturday in particular offering some great waves in the five to six foot range with offshore winds.

The team were accompanied by teacher Mr Capps who commented: “The overall standard gets higher each year with many of the competitors now spending considerable amounts of time over the year competing internationally.

On this basis, it was a huge achievement for Andy Wheeler and Ellen Harding to make it the finals of the Longboard and the Under 18 girls’ categories taking down a number of top ranked surfers.” Joseph  Harding surfed really well in his first Schools Contest and Alex Allen narrowly missed out on progressing. Josh Hunt also did well on his return to the college.

Surfers are now looking forward to training over the winter months before the next contest in April.
