What is family learning?
| • | Family Learning is the name for a range of courses for mums and dads – including grandparents and carers of children from 11-18 years of age. |
|---|---|
| • | They are organised by the College inconjunction with Devon Adult and Community Learning. |
| • | The courses are funded by the Learning and Skills Council as part of the national skills for life agenda. |
| • | The courses give parents and carers the chance to find out how their children learn; opportunities to work alongside their children and the opportunity to improve their own skills. |
In the past courses at Kingsbridge Community College have focused on: |
|
| • | Being the Parent of a Teenager |
| • | Understanding the Curriculum |
| • | Opening Minds |
| • | ICT |
| • | Science |
… and in the future as well as these we plan to do courses looking at ‘Animation and Media’. |
|
The courses vary in length from short two hour workshops to a series of meetings lasting 12 hours over a six week period.
Benefits of Family Learning Courses include: |
|
| • | Increased parental involvement and understanding of the curriculum |
|---|---|
| • | Support for childrens’ learning at home and support for parents in bringing up children |
