Educational Maintenance Allowance (EMA)

Students who are in a household where the annual income is less than £30 000 a year are eligible to apply for EMA.  Students who meet the criteria will receive up to £30 per week.  EMA will be paid to students who attend all lessons and tutorials and are punctual to registration periods.  The conditions of EMA prevent us paying students if they are absent from College for any reason other than an organised educational activity.

EMA application packs are available online and further information is available on the website at www.direct.gov.uk/ema or call the helpline on 0800 121 8989.

Local Authority Learner Support Bursaries

Bursaries are available from the Local Authority each year to help cover the costs of being in Post 16 education.  Students access the bursaries by completing an application form available from the Sixth Form office in early September.  Students who incur extra costs due to the courses they are studying are encouraged to apply.  Students do not need to be in receipt of EMA in order to apply for the Learner Support Bursary.

Higher Education Finance

Students will receive extensive advice and guidance if they choose to apply for a Higher Education progression route.  The Local Authority is no longer responsible for processing the applications for student finance.

Students apply directly to Student Finance England for their loans, fees and maintenance grants.  This application happens as soon as the students have submitted their online applications to UCAS.  Students access the application details and other information regarding finance at www.direct.gov.uk/studentfinance
