Sixth Form News - July 09

The Leavers Ball The Leavers’ Ball on the nineteenth of June was a great success, with around two hundred sixth formers and friends gathering at Thurlestone Hotel for a Hollywood themed evening, which was fantastically well organised by the dedicated Social Committee. With the months of hard work finally over, we were all in high spirits and ready for a party! Everyone turned out looking great in their best red-carpet finery, with Katy Lyon being the deserving winner of the ‘best dressed’ female award and a professional photographer in attendance to take formal (and not so formal) pictures of the well-groomed guests. Fortunately, it was a beautiful evening, and perfect to make the most of the outdoor terrace and the lovely views over the South Hams. As the party got going and we restored our exam-sapped energy with copious amounts of buffet food, sophistication gave way to the inevitable playing with helium balloons and crazy dancing to cheesy classics. |

Olly Hornsby-Sayer and Emily Trant won the ‘best dancer’ awards for their admirable willingness to compromise their dignity in the name of fun. The teaching contingent made sure they were well represented with many of them turning up to join in the celebration; Mr Major even brought his mum along! In all, it was a fantastic evening that everyone thoroughly enjoyed, and a brilliant way to start the holiday that we’ve all anticipated for so long! Lastly can we say a big thank you to all staff that have taught and helped us over the past seven years at KCC. You will never be forgotten! Thank you and fairwell from the Leavers of 2009!! KCC students aim for Oxbridge Kingsbridge Community College students have been given tasters of the Oxbridge life this term: Seven Year 11 students were lucky enough to attend a Law Study Day organised by Exeter College Oxford. This involved workshops on Law problems and debating as well as information on student life at Oxford and guidance on making an application in the future. Eight 6th formers had the fantastic opportunity to spend two days living at Downing College, Cambridge as part of their Residential Open Day. |

| Students were invited to take part in workshops which included interview practice and making a successful application. They also had the chance to meet the Directors of Studies in the subjects to which they were interested in applying, and to visit other Cambridge colleges and faculties. Highlights included punting on the River Cam, the incredible College food and the chance to meet candidates from other schools. Inspired by their visit, all the students are planning on aiming high and making an application to either Oxford or Cambridge. | ||
