  Residential Visit to Nettlecombe 2009
  Year 12 Residential Nettlecombe visit
November arrives and it is time for the geography department’s annual foray into the distant lands of north Devon and Somerset.

The three day Year 12 residential course allows the students to engage with the geography out of context and apply their knowledge and understanding to key issues facing our world today.

On day one, Students conducted detailed investigations
into coastal management, always a problem but one madeworse by global climate change and the consequent sea level rise. Issues around tourism and urban regeneration were examined in Minehead on day two. The final day, students carried out a detailed environmental investigation into sand dunes and their management at Saunton Sands.
The staff and the students really value this residential visit. The immersion in the subject, the out-of-context value, the practical fieldwork skills and the bonding which only a residential visit can bring make for a very positive experience. We appreciate the cost of this visit to parents but can reassure them of the value for money this represents. We also appreciate the ongoing support of colleagues from other departments. Thank you.
