Outdoor Education Statement
The Kingsbridge Community College Outdoor Education Department strives to provide high quality outdoor experiences for a wide variety of students; often those who do not fit into a variety of other curriculum areas. The department has a large number of involved staff who are competent, experienced & qualified in a wide range of activities
We specialise in;
| A non-judgemental, positive, encouraging environment. |
| Promotion of independence & self-dependence. |
| Improvement in self confidence & esteem. |
| Developing the use of own initiative. |
| Improving interpersonal skills and relationships. |
| Providing positive role models, both male & female. |
| Teaching a wide variety of life and technical skills. |
| Providing a strong sense of community and significant personal challenges. |
| Engender a sense of adventure and interest in the wider world. |
| Staff with a wide range of practical, technical and academic skills. |
| High staff-student ratios allow good use of small groups in challenging environments, and hence good contact time between staff & students. |
| Qualified staff & volunteers allow trips to be well staffed and yet also be excellent value for money. |
| Use of 6th form students as both role models & junior leaders. |
We are proud that many students then continue these activities at university and onward. Ex-students have gone on to lead club & societies in caving, mountaineering & canoeing. A variety of websites, books & magazines have references to how the activities of KCC Outdoor Education has led to the activities the people are now doing. |
