Design and Technology Week 2011
Wed 15th June
Design and Technology G.C.S.E and A Level coursework preview evening 6.00-8.00pm. Come and have a look at the GCSE and A Level coursework in Resistant
Materials, Graphic Products, Product Design, Textiles and Photographs of students work in Catering. Also on the evening students involved in Project Catwalk will be
walking down the catwalk in their recycled fashions. The Exhibition will run until Thursday 23rd of June in the Sixth Form Centre. All welcome
Thursday 16th June
Year 6 students from our feeder primary schools will sample a taste of Design and Technology through various workshops including rocket cars, mini light key fobs,
fabric door plaques, catering and Cad/Cam bookends.
Friday17th June
The Big Design and Technology Event 6.00-8.00pm Sixth Form Centre Lounge.
The evening will commence with the winners from all of the feeder primary schools walking down the catwalk with their recycled accessories. They will be judged by a
panel of judges and winners will be chosen. Sam Sam the Bubble Man will put on a bubble display based on sustainability and there will also be performances by The Eco group, Project Catwalk, quizzes and music. Tickets available on the door. £3.50
for adults, £2.00 for children and under fives free. Tea, coffee and light snacks will be provided by Year 10 catering students.
Monday 20th June
Twenty five year 8 girls will be involved in a Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths event designing a mono rail system for an Olympic park.
All day event held at Kingsbridge Community College
Tuesday 21st June
The Big Bang Southwest. Forty five students from years 7-9 will travel by coach to
Exeter University to take part in the Southwest Big Bang event. Students will have the opportunity to take part in various workshops and competitions including the Young Technologist regional finals and show case their work.
Wednesday 22nd June
Fifteen year 8 students from Kingsbridge Community College and fifteen students from Dartmouth Academy will be working together in teams to build the fastest fan
powered car within a limited time period and budget. They will end the day with a race and a detailed cost plan of materials and components used.
Thursday 23rd June
Second of our feeder primary taster afternoons.
Friday 24th June
Technology week ends with a Designer in Residence working with Year 10 students on recording and developing design ideas.
