Fashion & Textiles GCSE Course Description

In the Fashion & Textiles course, we build on student’s prior design of making skills by undertaking a variety of projects to extend their knowledge of understanding of the subject.

Most of the course content is covered during Yr10, through a variety of short & longer projects focusing on developing practical skills, considering technological advances, environmental issues, the use of CAD/CAM, the work of designs and industrial practices. Students are encouraged to work creatively & increase their confidence in selecting suitable fabrics, processes & tools to produce innovative & quality products.

During Yr11, the main focus is on the design & manufacture of a major GCSE project.

Past projects have included:

• The design & manufacture of products for the children’s    section of a library
• A range of beachwear for the teenage market
• Contemporary garments inspired by an Oriental theme
