Travel and Tourism Statement
The Travel & Tourism industry is the biggest employer in the world and generates more money than any other sector. In the UK for example it supports around 1.7m jobs and generates over £60 billion for the country each year! There are literally thousands of career opportunities in the Travel & Tourism Industry. The GCE in Travel and Tourism is a great way into the industry and into hundreds of Further and Higher Education Travel and Tourism courses.
The Geography department at Kingsbridge offers the EDEXCEL Specification AS 3 unit and A2 6 unit award in Travel and Tourism. This is a modular syllabus, which emphasises the link between the Tourism Industry, and the impact that this has on people, the economy and the environment. It offers a more vocational approach to studying and promotes a high degree of independent learning.
Central to the GCE is the vocational element – real interaction with the movers and shakers in the industry. We are fortunate that in the Southwest region, Travel & Tourism is a big industry and as such we are increasingly tapping into the expertise that is out there, arranging visiting speakers and visits out both locally and nationally.
