Absence & Attendance
Absence and Attendance
There is a clear link between a high rate of attendance and high achievement. If students are not in lessons they cannot learn. This year we are looking closely at those students who consistently have incomplete weeks of attendance.
An absence from College should be explained by a note, an email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or phone-call from a parent. If notes are brought in on return from being away, considerable time and money can be saved. Absence notes are checked each week.
The College does not authorise term time holiday in line with the updated registration regulations (1st September 2013). Holidays taken in term time will result in a penalty notice being issued by Devon County Council.
Our Educational Welfare Officer is notified of any concerns and is directly involved in monitoring all aspects of attendance.
A ‘Leave of Absence’ may be requested in exceptional circumstances.
Warning: If the school refuses your request and the child is still taken out of school, this will be recorded as an unauthorised absence. A significant amount of unauthorised absence may make you liable to a Penalty Notice for each child, payable by each parent/carer, or the subject of court proceedings which could result in a fine of up to £2,500 and/or a term of imprisonment of up to 3 months.
