Year 7 Catch Up Premium

2014-15

 

Maths

 

16 students in year 7 had small group weekly tuition. These students were selected because they achieved below NC Level 4 in Maths at Key Stage 2. We employed an additional part-time teacher to work with these students to ensure continuity.

 

All students showed an increase in confidence and enjoyment in Maths.

 

88% (14 of 16 students) showed an improvement in their levels

 

44% (7 of 16 students) achieved at least Level 4 during the intervention.

 

25% of the group achieved more than expected progress during Year 7.

 

The group were particularly weak in Maths with a mean KS2 SAT score of 3.1.


The group focused on times tables, time, ordering numbers, addition and subtraction using a number line and column method.

 

English

 

42 students in Year 7 had literacy support (72% boys, 28% girls) either 1:1 sessions or small groups. 1:1 sessions were for 50 minutes each week.

 


Reading

 

19 students (45%) made more than 10 months progress in an 8 month period. 13 students (31%) made more than 15 months progress in that period.

 

Spelling

 

12 students (29%) made more than 10 months progress in an 8 month period. 9 students (21%) made more than 15 months progress in that period.

 

We plan to continue with this group into Year 8 as they have a particularly low starting point.
