We believe that all students should have equal opportunities to participate in music making. Our curriculum is practically based to provide students with a creative approach to music making involving performing, composing, listening and appraising. Our extra-curriculum programme includes a wide range of activities ensuring there are opportunities for everyone.
Key Stage 3 (arranged as half termly or termly projects):
Introduction to music at KCC (including samba, singing, introduction to the keyboard, structure, Christmas song arrangement)
Gamelan – just play
(Singing projects run alongside the above units throughout the year)

Key Stage 4
GCSE Music (AQA)
Understanding Music – 1.5 hour exam (40%)
- Composition 1: composing to brief
- Composition 2: free composition (30%)
Performing coursework: one solo and one ensemble piece (30%)
BTEC Music (Pearson)
This course provides students with a vocational equivalent to GCSE Music. Students will have opportunities to give regular performances and will learn about the music industry. They will learn about managing live sound and will manage and organise a range of musical events.
Key Stage 5
BTEC Level 3 Certificate/Subsidiary Diploma in Music (Performing)
This course provides students with a programme of learning in Music focused specifically on performance. It will provide an understanding of the vital skills needed to start a professional career or move on to further study and an insight into the employment opportunities available.
