At Kingsbridge Community College, we are proud of our popular and welcoming Sixth Form, where every student is known as an individual and supported to achieve their very best.

Students join us from across South Devon, attracted by our high standards, excellent outcomes and wide range of academic and vocational courses. Whether students choose traditional A levels or vocational pathways such as Media, Performing Arts and CTEC Sport, we offer a broad range of opportunities to help them pursue their interests, develop their strengths and prepare confidently for their next steps.

We believe that there is no single route to success. Our approach is built around finding what works best for each student, with bespoke programmes of study, experienced tutors, skilled welfare support, independent study guidance and expert careers advice helping every young person to make the most of their time with us.

High expectations, individual support

Students normally study three A level subjects or equivalent from the beginning of year 12. Depending on their chosen pathway, some students may also take an EPQ (Extended Project Qualification), Core Maths or the additional challenge of a fourth A level or equivalent.

We have high expectations of all our students and provide a strong framework of target-setting, monitoring and support to help them make sustained academic progress. Alongside their subject teachers, every student has an experienced tutor who provides guidance and encouragement throughout their Sixth Form journey.

For students applying to particularly competitive courses and universities, we offer additional mentoring and specialist support, including for Oxbridge applications and applications to courses requiring medical or law entrance examinations.

Our students also benefit from a dedicated Sixth Form team who are always available to listen, provide advice and help resolve any concerns. We know that feeling supported and having someone to turn to can make a real difference, so communication is central to our approach. Students can call into the Sixth Form office or contact us by email and we will always make time to see them.

Preparing for the future

The vast majority of our students progress to university, apprenticeships, employment or other exciting opportunities. Our sophisticated careers and guidance programme combines expert advice from qualified advisers with online resources, helping students make informed decisions about their future.

We also place a strong emphasis on independence and leadership. Students are encouraged to take responsibility for their own progress, develop confidence in their decision-making and play an active role in the wider life of the Sixth Form.

Our enrichment and tutorial programme provides opportunities for students to develop beyond their academic studies, helping them become confident, articulate and positive young adults who are ready to take their next steps.

A community where everyone belongs

Our Sixth Form is an inclusive and respectful community where diversity, equality, individuality and independence are valued.  Our students have an important role to play in shaping our culture. Through their actions, interactions and achievements, they have the opportunity to leave a positive legacy for the next generation of students and help shape the character of our entire school community.

Alongside tutors and teachers, the whole Sixth Form team is here to support our students. We challenge and inspire them to achieve their best possible outcomes, while helping them to care for themselves, each other and the community around them.
