The Social Science Department aims to develop learners who are confident and skilled academics (learners), who are equipped to be active members of the community when the leave KCC. We aim for all students to be able to reflect on and evaluate a range of theoretical perspectives across applied contexts. We equip students to be able to interrogate the research evidence upon which arguments are based and make informed judgements. We support students to be develop their academic skills in the context of the real world in which they live and will be entering. Students enjoy Social Sciences for the love of their subject and the opportunities it provides for the future. Students develop a range of transferable skill and are able to utilise a range of methodological research skills and be confident in the analysis of quantitative and qualitative data. We guide students to develop an appreciation of diverse experience, respecting and appreciating difference and applying the theoretical ethics covered in class in their everyday lives.
